What lessons have you learned from owning and operating a vineyard?
Running a vineyard has been both a humbling and rewarding experience. Nature doesn’t work on a fixed schedule, and neither does wine. One key lesson has been to respect the rhythm of the land and allow each vintage to tell its own story. The O’Briens also discovered that consistency in quality comes from hands-on involvement—from walking the vineyard rows to overseeing production and hospitality.
What advice would you give to someone dreaming of owning a vineyard or winery?
The O’Briens would say: “Start with passion, then prepare for everything else.” The wine industry is as demanding as it is rewarding. It’s essential to be involved in every step; not just dreaming of sipping wine in the sunshine, but understanding farming, production, marketing, and customer connection.
